Verb Forms

A verb is a doing word or action word that tells us what a person, animal, or thing is doing, feeling, or being.

These four forms are the ones children use most in writing.

The base is the plain word, as in play.

The past tells what already happened, as in played.

The he/she/it form is for one person now, as in plays.

The -ing form is for an action going on, as in playing.

Some past forms do not add -ed. They change the word, as in go, went, and eat, ate. Both kinds are in the list.
